How to Support the Local Community in Nusa Lembongan

One of the most rewarding aspects of travel is immersing oneself in new cultures and connecting with the people who call those places home. If, like many of us, you’ve been captivated by the warmth and vitality of the locals in Nusa Lembongan and are eager to contribute to their well-being, consider the following ways to make a positive impact during your stay.

Shop locally to directly bolster the livelihood of the community. Explore the unique offerings at the island’s only art gallery, Rai Art Space, where you’ll find exquisite paintings and statues crafted by talented local artists. Indulge in a refreshing Good Karma smoothie from Ombak Cafe & Huts, B’Fresh or Fin Island, made with spirulina cubes sourced from local seaweed farmers, supporting sustainable agricultural practices and local entrepreneurship. Head to a local warung and order freshly caught seafood by local fishermen.

Donate to Love for Lembongan, a charity initiative started by The Lembongan Traveller and the Bali Children Foundation, which has been instrumental in providing essential aid to hundreds of families during the pandemic. Today, the initiative continues its mission by focusing on educational and healthcare initiatives, including supporting students in learning essential numeracy and literacy skills, as well as facilitating access to vital healthcare treatments for priority patients and elderly.

Support the furry friends through Paws of Lembongan, which tirelessly operates a sterilization and treatment program for the island’s dogs and cats, contributing to animal welfare and community health. This community organization relies entirely on private donations, making any form of support, whether financial or in-kind, immensely valuable and deeply appreciated.

Participate in beach clean-ups to help preserve the pristine beauty of Nusa Lembongan’s beaches. Join organized clean-up efforts led by local dive centers or the Lembongan Surf Team, dedicating some time to removing debris and litter from the shoreline. By doing so, you’re not only contributing to environmental conservation but also promoting sustainable tourism practices for the benefit of future generations.

Back the Lembongan Surf Team, which has been a driving force behind the island’s vibrant surfing community since its establishment in 2001 by passionate local surfers. Show your support by sponsoring the team, purchasing their merchandise, or even taking surfing lessons from the local surf school, contributing to the growth and development of this beloved island tradition.

However you wish to help the locals, any support is appreciated and will help Nusa Lembongan continue to be a thriving community.
